10 Fun Facts about Us & our Pigs

#1 Our hogs get 9 different types of mixed feed along their stages of growth! These feeding methods were developed in Japan and go above and beyond the industry standard of merely 3 types of feed.

#2 Chester Whites make great mothers and are pretty docile. A zen environment leads to happy pigs!

#3 For Japan, our Chester Whites are cross bred with the local Sangenton pig to produce the uber premium Yongenton Silky Pork!

#4 Our humble little town of Seven Springs has a total population of 85 people! We are though part of the Goldsboro municipality. Goldsboro being the well accepted whole hog BBQ capital of North Carolina.

#5 As the name implies our Chester Whites are ALL WHITE! This makes for some really cute pictures but we need to keep them shaded so they don't get sun burned! Oddly enough Chester Whites rarely get heat stressed - Go figure!

#6 Just because we're farmers doesn't mean we're not tech savvy! While Steve Jobs was making the Mac computer our family pioneered the performance-testing software still in use in North Carolina's on-farm program. We're still waiting on our invitation to Mac-world. Our next app? Social media for swine! .... maybe we'll stick with making bacon.

#7 Purebreeding programs can get crushed by a super virus called "pseudorabies". After a near brush with tragedy we created the now industry standard of sectioning piglets into 3 areas. We're continually called on as experts in disease prevention. The education was painful! but we share what we learned.

#8 Our very first boar was an award winning Chester White named Tarheel. Carolina pride all day!

#9 In the infancy of the farm we had two Australian Shepard dogs to guard the farm. Their names were "Pig" & "Hog" which in hindsight was probably a bad idea given how nervous they got when we talked about pork chops for dinner.

#10 Any pig breed ending with "shire" has pointy ears e.g. Berkshires, Hampshires etc. Our pigs have nice floppy ears
